Connacht Indoors Championships
The Connacht Indoors took place last weekend in Nenagh, Co Tipperary and had a number of noteworthy performances from Loughrea Athletic Club members.

Loughrea A.C results:
Emmet Creaven: U.19 Long Jump – 2nd place, Triple Jump 2nd place and 1st in the U 19 high jump
Justin Cooney: U.17 60metres Hurdles- 3rd place, 2nd in High Jump, 4th in Long Jump
Caomhan Coughan: U.17 High Jump – 1.72metres, 1st place
Boys U 17 4X200metre relay: 3rd place
Mary Barrett 1st place in the Senior High Jump 


CARA Bundoran 10 Mile Challenge

Saturday the 5th of March saw the inaugural Cara Bundoran Run – 10 Mile Challenge kick into life with well over 400 runners, joggers and walkers making the trip to the seaside town of Bundoran. The first runner home in the excellent time of 50:18 seconds was Derry man Paddy Hamilton, 1st woman home across the line on the day to the beautiful coastline of Bundoran was Belfast’s Breege Connolly in another excellent time of 59:23. Loughrea Athletic Club members Catherine Kelly and Audrey Mc Mahon took part in the event each finishing in 90 mins respectively. The race was very successfully organised by Tir Chonaill Athletic Club and all proceeds going back into Athletics Ireland for grassroots development, well done to all who took part.  




Kilconeiran 8km

The kilconeiran 8 km took place last Sunday in the perfect Spring sunshine. The race was won by Matt Bidwell of Galway City Harriers.
Well done to Loughrea Athletic Club members T.J Beatty 34:51, Jarlath Fitzgerald 38:03, Judith Roche 40:30 and Olivia Deely 42:40 who all took part.
The organisers were delighted with the great turnout which raised over three thousand for charity, and would like to thanks everyone that supported the event.


Woodies DIY/ AAI Inter Club Cross Country Championships,

Santry, Dublin 26th February 2011

The Woodie’s DIY AAI Inter Club Cross Country Championships was held last Saturday 26th February, in Santry Park Dublin hosted by Clonliffe Harriers AC. This event gave all club runners the opportunity to run the highly successful 2009 European Championships course, and participate in the last great cross country event of the season. In the Senior Women’s 8000 metres Laura Shaughnessy of Loughrea A.C finished in an impressive 22nd position overall in a time of 33:06 an excellent performance for Laura given the caliber and toughness of the Inter Club event.  


Scottish Pentatalon Championships 

Well done to Mary Barrett on winning another 4 gold medals at the Scottish Masters Pentatalon held in Glasgow on the 13th February. Mary scooped gold in the pentatalon, shot putt, high jump and 60m hurdles. Mary had an excellent days track and field competing in 8 different track and field events!  


Oranmore Maree 8km

Well done to Thelma Mc Mahon and Susanne Lally who competed in the 8km in Oranmore last Sunday.

 Thelma finished in a time of 34:34 and Susanne in 39:19. Well done Girls!


Ennis 5km

In conjunction with Clare County Athletics the final leg of the 5km series took place on Saturday 12th February in Ennis. 

Well done to Vincent Mc Guinness who completed the course in a fast time of 19:10. T.J Beatty in a time of 21:20 and Jarlath Fitzgerald in 25:20


Celtic Cross Country Championships

Laura Shaughnessy had an excellent run finishing 4th in the Celtic Cross Country Championship on the 6th of February. Laura also won a team prize with the Irish U23 team finishing second overall. Teams from Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales took part in the event held in Swords, Dublin 




Mary wins again at Leinster Masters!

 Mary had another fantastic weekend competing in the Leinster Masters Track and Field winning another outstanding four gold medals in the shot putt, high jump, long jump and 60m hurdles respectively


Mary Barrett wins 4 golds at Irish Indoors!

The Irish Indoor Masters Championship took place last weekend in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary.

 Mary Barrett had an outstanding day in the track and field  events taking home 4 gold medals in the high jump, long jump, 60m sprint and the shot putt.   

Well done Mary!


Scariff 5km

The Scariff 5k took place last Saturday 22nd January in some very icy conditions, the course was a mix of on and off road. Well done to Loughrea AC members T.J Beatty (23:13), Siobhan Kelleher (25:30) and Jarlath Fitzgerald (28:07) who took part in the event


Clarinbridge 10km

The Clarinbridge 10km took place Sunday 23rd January midst some very foggy, damp conditions! It was a well supported event in aid of a very worthy cause the IHPCT Lourdes Fund.

Thelma Mc Mahon had an excellent run finishing in 2nd place in the Senior Ladies in a personal best time of 43:11.  Eddie Mc Mahon also had a very fine run finishing in 43:48 


Woodies DIY Novice & Juvenile Uneven Age Cross County All Ireland Championship

Sunday January 16th saw the long awaited Woodie’s DIY Novice & Juvenile Uneven Ages Cross Country Championships of Ireland take place in the Charleville Demesne in Tullamore. This popular and important Championship was postponed late last month due to the inclement weather of the time which affected many parts of the country.

Laura Shaughnessy of Loughrea A.C took part in the 3,000metre novice event and came home in 5th position, a very fine run by Laura with some very tough conditions in Tullamore!


Tuam 8km 2011

On Sunday 16th January a dry, bright and slightly windy day saw a record turnout for the annual Tuam AC 8K spring road race. A top class field took to the roads with Gerry Ryan from Galway City Harriers winning the mens event and Veronica Colleran of Ennis Track Club taking the honours in the womens. Loughrea A.C had three ladies who took part in the road race Susanne Lally 39:10, Judith Roche 41:01 and Orla Mc Cluskey 49:36. Well done to all!
