ANNUAL AWARDS DAY – 2013

ANNUAL AWARDS DAY

Loughrea Juvenile AC held its Annual Awards Day at the new Indoor Arena in Athlone IT on Sunday 8th December 2013.

Caomhan Conaghan was presented with the Perpetual Cup for Athlete of the Year 2013.  Caomhan had great success this year winning County and Connacht Indoor and Outdoor gold in the u.19 Long Jump (5.80m); High Jump (PB 1.92m); Triple Jump (12.20m) and silver in the County 200m.  He also competed in the Schools All Ireland where he came 4th in the High Jump (1.90m) and 5th in the Triple Jump (12.26m).  Caomhan has been trained by Mary Barrett and Bob Bailey.  He was presented the award on the day by Bob.

Maeve Farrell won the u.18 award and is a relatively new member of the Club.  Maeve won gold in the County Indoor u.17; 60m hurdles and took bronze in the 60m sprint.  She won a bronze at the Connacht Indoor u.17; 60m hurdles and competed in the County Outdoors winning the Long Jump, 100m hurdles and 250m hurdles.  Maeve then went on to compete in the Connacht Outdoors winning the 300m hurdles, silver in the Long Jump and a silver in the 100m hurdles.  Maeve also had the honour of representing the Club at the All Ireland Track and Field in Tullamore in July.

Arlene Earls won the u.14 award.  Arlene won medals in both the Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field.  She won silver at the Connacht Outdoors u.14; 1500m and was part of the u.14; 4 x 200m relay which won both County and Connacht gold, this team then went on to finish 6th in the Indoor All Irelands in Athlone.  Arlene was also part of the HSE Community Games County Galway mixed distance relay u.14 team, which won bronze at the All Irelands in Athlone and the u.14 County Galway Cross Country team that won silver in the All Irelands in Tullamore.

Chloe Casey won the u.12 award.  Chloe had a great year winning both County and Connacht titles for her Club.  She won the Indoor County and Connacht 600m and went on to win the Outdoor Connacht 600m in an impressive time of 152.38.  She was also part of the u.12 and u.13 relays which won County and Connacht  medals, the u.12; 4 x 100m  relay team went on to finish in the top ten at the All Ireland Indoors in Athlone.  Chloe was also chosen to run as part of the HSE Community Games County Galway Cross Country team in May in Athlone.

Aoibhin Farrell and Emma Stewart were the team award winners on the day.  Both girls competed in the County and Connacht Indoors and were on the u.11; 4x100m relay that won the silver medal in the County Indoors & u.12; 4x100m  relay that won the gold medal in the County and Connacht Outdoors.  Aoibhin also won a bronze in the Long Jump u.11 at the County Indoors.  Aoibhin and Emma were paired together in the 60m and Long Jump and won silver in the County and Connacht Outdoors.  The girls went on to compete in the u.11 All Irelands in Donegal and done their Club very proud finishing in the top ten in the country.

Cathal Duffy was the youngest recipient winning the u.10 award. He competed in the County Indoors  and narrowly missed out on a medal finishing in 4th position.   Cathal was given the award for his hard work throughout the year.  Keep it up Cathal.

Well done to all the Award winners and all the Juvenile members throughout the year and a big thank you to the coaches.  We look forward to another successful year in 2014.  Wishing everybody a Happy Christmas and New Year.
