Indoor Track & Field Athletics

The Indoor Track & Field Athletics competitions came to an end last weekend with the All Irelands being held in Athlone IT over two weekends.

The first weekend saw the individual events with Loughrea AC having six athletes taking part.  Aoibhin Farrell competed in the u12, 60m and narrowly missed out on a place in the final finishing 4th in her heat,  she also took part in the u12, Long Jump and finished in 5th place with a jump of 3.90m, her sister Maeve took part in the u18 Long Jump also finishing in 5th place with a jump of 4.66m and finishing 7th in the 60m Hurdles. Both girls performed personal bests in their events on the day. Maeve also made it on to the photos section on the Athletics Ireland Facebook page.

Eoin Conaghan & Brendan Lynch both finished in the top ten in the Long Jump.  Eoin jumped 4.26m, u15 and Brendan jumped 4.62m in the u16.  Stephen Doran competed in the  u15, Shot Put with a throw of 7.63m.

David Brown  ran a personal best in the u19, 800m finishing in a time of 2 minutes and 12 seconds

The final weekend saw two relay teams compete for Loughrea AC.  The girls u15 (Arlene Earls, Emma Reynolds, Siobhan McGrath, Erica Leslie & Lauren Stewart) ran a personal best time of 1:54:08 finishing 9th overall with the winning team setting a new Championship Best Performance. The u16 (Arlene Earls, Emma Reynolds, Grace Finnerty & Andrea Treacy) also ran a personal best time of 1:54.57 finishing in 8th place overall . 

The outdoor season begins next month with the Galway Outdoors being held in Dangan in May.
