Galway Indoor Junior Championship finals


Loughrea Athletic Club had a large number of junior athletes competing at the Galway Indoor Junior Championships finals in Nenagh on 2nd February.

Chloe Casey won gold  in the u12 600m with a magnificent performance in a time of 1.59 almost 9 seconds ahead of the field.  Chloe also went on to win the long jump (3.48m) and was part of the u12 relay team to take silver.  Aoibhin Farrell won bronze in the u11 Long Jump (2.85m).

Emma Reynolds retained her county title to win the u14 60m in a time of 7.75 with Siobhan McGrath taking silver,  Siobhan also went on to win the u14 shot putt (7.47).  Arlene Earls won bronze in the u14 800m  after a very successful cross country season.  Shannon Ridge had a great race in the u15 60m (8.41) taking the gold medal.   Clara Doran won silver in the u16 long jump (3.35m) with Meave Farrell winning gold in the u17 60m hurdles (13.39) and bronze in the 60m.

Sinead Koen competed in the u16/17 shot putt with a throw of 4.47m to take silver.  Sinead will represent Ireland at the World Dwarf Games later this year.

The girls relays teams  u11, 4x100m (Aoibhin Farrell, Claire Le Branche, Elysia Cox, Emma Stewart and Alisha Noone) u12, 4x100m (Rebeca Sheils, Emma Stewart, Chloe Casey and Aoibhin Farrell) u14, 4x100m (Siobhan McGrath, Lauren Stewart, Ericia Leslie and Jodie Tierney) u15, 4x200m (Arlene Earls, Grace Finnerty, Emma Reynolds and Shannon Ridge) all won silver medals.

Eoin Conaghan took bronze in the u14 60m and 800m.  His brother Caomhan went on to win the u19 high jump (1.85m) and long jump (5.80m) and took silver in the mens 200m.

Stephen Doran won silver in the u14 long jump (3.86) while Callum Reddington won the u15 long jump (3.29) with Darragh Headd taking silver. In the u17 800m David  Browne won silver.  Janic Schulte won silver in the mens long jump (5.48).

The boys also took silver in both the u15 4x200m (Callum Reddington, Eoin Conaghan, Darragh Headd and Stephen Doran) and u17 4x200m (David Browne, Jack Sheils, Darragh Headd and Callum Reddington).

Well done to all the athletes who participated, many of whom were competing for the first time indoors, there were some great performances all round.  A big thanks to all the parents and coaches who travelled on the day.

The Connaught Indoor Track and Field will be held on 3rd March in the new state of the art Indoor Track in Athlone.  We wish all competing the best of luck.
