Connacht Juvenile Indoor Track and Field championships

The Connacht Juvenile Track and Field Championships took place on Sunday 3rd of March 2013 at the splendid new Athlone IT Indoor Arena.

Loughrea athletes got off to a great start with gold medals in the u12 4x100m relay with Chloe Casey, Rebecca Shiel, Emma Stewart and Aoibhin Farrell and u14 4x200m relay with Arlene Earls, Erica Leslie, Siobhan McGrath and Emma Reynolds. The first Connacht relay medals for Loughrea AC in over twenty years. The boys u14 4x200m narrowly missed out on the medals in finishing 4th.

Chloe Casey u12 ran a very strong 600m to take the bronze medal and won her heat in the process from start to finish. The u14 60m sprint had three Loughrea girls in the final Siobhan McGrath, Erica Leslie and Emma Reynolds, Emma won the bronze medal. Siobhan McGrath won bronze in the u14 shot putt.  Arlene Earls won  gold the u14 Long Jump and bronze in the u14 800m.  Shannon Ridge made it to the final of the u15 60m sprint. Maeve Farrell won bronze in the u17 60m Hurdles.

Anja Quinn won silver in the u15 High Jump (1.35m). Caomhan Conaghan  won gold in the u19 High Jump with a personal best (1.92m), gold in the Long Jump (5.74m) and gold in the Triple Jump (12.20m).  Janic Schulte won silver in the u19 High Jump (1.70m), silver in the Long Jump (5.37m) and silver in the Triple Jump (10.69).

Mary Barrett competed in the Senior Womens High Jump to win gold with a jump of 1.25m and gold in the Shot Putt with a throw of 10.76m.

It was a wonderful weekend for Loughrea Athletics.
