Loughrea Juvenile Athletes travelled to Athlone last weekend for the Connacht Indoor Track & Field Athletics Championships held in the IT Arena.  The competitions were held over two days with the u12 – u15 age groups taking part on Saturday and u-16- senior competing  on Sunday.
Day one got off to a great start with Eoin Conaghan winning a silver medal in the u15, long jump and Stephen Doran winning a bronze medal in the u15, shot putt.
Aoibhin Farrell was the star of the day winning the u12, long  jump 3.84 metres and 60m in 9.04 seconds. This was a major achievement for Aiobhin who finished 4th in County Indoors only a month ago in a time of 9.24 seconds with Alisha Larkin also a finalist in the 60m. Chloe Casey made it to the finals of the u13, 60m.
 
The day finished off with more medals for Loughrea in the u15, girls 4 x 200m relay  (Arlene Earls, Emma Reynolds, Siobhan McGrath, Erica Leslie, Lauren Stewart & Pearl Finnerty)  winning the gold medal after beating off stiff competition from Sligo AC and Galway City Harriers and the boys u15, 4 x 200m relay (Shane Donnellan, Eoin Conaghan, Stephen Doran & Daniel O’Malley) winning  the bronze medal.
 
Day two saw more medals for Loughrea with the girls u16, 4x200m relay (Arlene Earls, Emma Reynolds, Grace Finnerty & Andrea Treacy) winning the silver medal. David Brown continued his impressive running in coming 2nd in the u17, 800 metres in a time 2 mins and 13 seconds. David lead from the whistle but was beaten on the home straight. Brendan Lynch won the boys long jump u16 and finished 4th in 200 m. Callum Reddington won silver in the 3k walk. Maeve Farrell won gold in the 60 m hurdles, silver in the long jump and bronze in the 200 metres. Andrea Tracey finished second in her heat of u16, girls 200 m race and finished 4th overall narrowly missing a medal.
